Letting Go, 2022
Acrylic, Glitter, and Paper on Canvas, 18” x 24”, $1,000
This artwork explores the idea of "letting go". I have recently been reflecting a lot on the pain, joy, and confusion associated with letting go of people, places, and things. This piece serves as both a representation of this idea as well as an outlet for me to process my own feelings about letting go. The subject of the painting is holding a daffodil and is letting the petals float down the river. Surrounding her are a variety of flowers including the marigold, lily of the valley, pear blossom, and agrimonia. I always research the symbolism behind certain flowers, which serves as the basis of which ones I ultimately decide to include in the piece. The fact that she is still holding onto the daffodil with tears streaming down her face represents the grief and resistance to letting go, and the petals floating one by one away from her down the river ultimately represent the reality of moving forward and the eventual joy that will follow.
