Imperfect, 2022
Acrylic and Paper on Canvas, 36” x 24”, Not For Sale
I conceptualized this piece while reflecting on how my obsession with being perfect in multiple aspects of my life has in the past inhibited me from living authentically. I wanted to include imagery that contrasted the perfect from the imperfect, such as the torn collaged paper against the grid background, or the symmetrical camellia flower next to less uniform wildflowers. The vines wrapping around the figure’s legs signifies the ongoing struggle with letting go of the need to be perfect, but her overall freeness represents healing and acceptance of the imperfect.
