Based on the theme "Inside - Outside", this painting morphed into something much more significant than a simple narrative of a shy, lost, small town girl trying to break free from the life she had been living to start a new one. It became a symbol of freedom, of individuality, of feminism, of vulnerability, of change, of strength, and of growth. It became something that I wanted many people to be able relate to, something that could show that in our most vulnerable states of change and transition, we have to have the courage to loosen the ties that bind us to our old lives, and become who we were always meant to be.
